CANDID: A NEW WAY TO TELL STORIES
ROLE: Product Design Intern
Manager: Sean Click, Senior Product Designer & Alberto Mier, Senior Designer
Direction: Michael Hogenmiller, Creative Director
Starting Fall of 2018 I started to intern as a Product Designer with CNN’s digital team!
During my internship at CNN I worked with a variety of different teams at CNN's Digital department. At the end of my internship at CNN, I pitched Candid, a new way to tell stories, specifically targeted at millennials. Candid allows you to get your news via selfie journalism. A platform where it can all live on.
Millennial are not encaging with traditional news media, newspaper, tv and websites instead they are usually stumble across news in an incidental or passive manner. Our consumption of news is different from past generations. Instead of reading the newspaper with breakfast or regularly watching the evening broadcast news, Millennials are more likely to integrate news information into their daily activities.
24% of millennials get their news from television as opposed to 64% of millennials who get their news online = Change the format of the news, change the mind of millennials?
If we take a closer look at the Millennial Generation as a whole:
It is made of 92 million people
The average millennial owns 7.7 connected devices
Millennial are the future, its just going to get more digital from here as technology is advancing day by day something new happens in the tech world
Millennials are heavily into social media
With Candid you are able to develop a personal connection with our trusted people at CNN, real time one-on-ones with the important faces of the news world.
If you like the way a certain someone delivers their news, with Candid you are able to follow them and their journey.
Dedicated to a particular storyline? Follow its journey and keep up with the frequent updates!
Using selfies to report will appeal to a larger audience as it centers around the journalist more, which leads to a deeper connection with the news reported as they interact with the environment, and it is relevant to today’s technological trend.
Comment on it, tag your friends, start a discussion.
Get notified when there is an update on a story you care about, every time we get an update, you will too. Don’t fall back on any storieslines anymore
